Art Classes

We run art classes every year, commencing October, but those are only open to club members. Each class finishes in March, giving 20 sessions in the year. Entry to classes is open to all our members, subject to availability. The club has annual contracts with experienced artists offering a range of instruction and demonstration. Members can apply to join a class through our Members Area. Tutors give a short description of their approach and style. Members can select the class that suits best, but early application is advised as places will fill up quickly. Applications for classes will as usual be on a first come first served basis and members should apply when renewing their subscription or when taking up an offer of membership.

This year we have two tutors, one offering face to face and one offering classes on Zoom. Johanna Logan (Wednesday and Friday mornings) and Lynn Howarth (Thursday evening). New members joining now should ask about availability for class membership.  Write to info@bearsdenart.org.uk

Johanna Logan

Johanna takes classes face to face on Wednesday and Friday mornings at Baljaffray Parish Church, commencing 4th October 2023. Johanna has set out her approach in the following statement:-

"I encourage pupils to try new ideas and mediums through demonstrations, while at the same time supporting you in your current medium and paintings."

Lynn Howarth

Lynn will take classes on Thursday evenings by Zoom from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, commencing 5th October 2023.

Lynn set out her approach in the following statement;

"My approach to tutoring is to support each student individually by guiding them through the processes and techniques of the beautiful medium of pastel. By setting various fortnightly challenges and exercises my aim is to build their confidence in handling pastel and help them take their artworks to new levels."

Cost

The annual fee for a class is currently £240. Members of the classes have to provide their own materials. Classes this year are a maximum of 16 members. All abilities are represented in the classes and if you are a beginner you will not be alone.  Our tutors are happy to guide more experienced class members and encourage development as part of their philosophy.

The Millennium Bowl

The club has a prize, awarded at the Annual Exhibition, to the class member who is judged by the tutors to have made the most progress in the course of the year. That prize, the Millennium Bowl, in handsome crystal, was donated to the club by a former tutor, the late Peter Connolly when he retired, demonstrating the close association between club and tutors which has been a feature of Bearsden Art Club for many years.
