We run art classes every year, commencing October. Each class finishes in March, giving 20 sessions in the year. Entry to classes is open to all our members, subject to availability. The club has annual contracts with two experienced artists both offering a range of instruction and demonstration. Members can apply to join a class on or after 15th August. Tutors give a short description of their approach and style. Members can select the class that suits best.
Applications for session 2018-2019 are now closed as classes are fully subscribed
Iona Montgomery tutors at Baljaffray Church Hall Bearsden on Wednesday mornings from 10.00 to 12.00, and again on Friday mornings from 10.00 to 12.00. Her approach is best summarised by quoting directly her tutor statement;
"My teaching method has emerged from extensive experience in lecturing art school, fine art degree students. Although working within the stimulating atmosphere of a group the emphasis will be on the development of each individual student’s own creative potential with the aid of demonstrations and personal tuition."

Graham Lister will take a class on Wednesday evenings, from 7.30 to 9.30pm at Bearsden Academy (he does not teach there). Graham sets out his approach in the following statement;
"As an art tutor I always try to create a space for individuals to focus on their chosen subject matter, and aim to offer support and positive guidance about technical aspects of drawing and painting. I look to find ways that each class member can build on their abilities by periodically setting out interesting short exercises, suggesting exciting new ways of working and giving short talks on different ways of thinking about art."

The annual fee for a class is £120, (non-refundable in the event of resignation), payable before the first class starts. Members of the classes have to provide their own materials. Classes are of varying size from up to 16. All abilities are represented in the classes and if you are a beginner you will not be alone. Our tutors are happy to guide more experienced class members and encourage development as part of their philosophy.
The Millennium Bowl
The club has a prize, awarded at the Annual Exhibition, to the class member who is judged by the tutors to have made the most progress in the course of the year. That prize, the Millennium Bowl, in handsome crystal, was donated to the club by a former tutor, the late Peter Connolly when he retired, demonstrating the close association between club and tutors which has been a feature of Bearsden Art Club for many years.
