Results for The Gregor Ian Smith Award
We had 43 entries online for our GIS Award. Our club tutors, Iona Montgomery and Lynn Howarth zoomed in on Saturday 10th April to judge our paintings.
The results are as follows with comments from the judges.
1st Place to Lesley Wiseman-Orr for "Summer Light on Lane, Baldernock"
This beautiful acrylic looks like it has been painted en plein air with its vigorous brush strokes and captures a great sense of light. The lovely composition pulls you right into the scene and really gives you a sense of the place. The muted palette offset with that zingy green tells you immediately that it’s high Summer.
2nd Place to Etta Dunbar for "Harbinger of Spring"
This clever close up of Snowdrops has been carefully and beautiful observed. The palette of green and white complemented by the addition of soft violets and pinks is extremely beautiful. It has a really lovely glow to it!
3rd Place to Lorna Gowan’s for "Autumn Pinks"
This mixed media painting captures a real sense of the season without resorting to the usual palette one would expect to see. We loved the textures in this and the light that swirls from the foreground into the middle distance is beautifully rendered. A really beautiful painting!
Highly commended was Shena Pyke’s Autumn Glow and Judith Chapman’s Blane Valley October.
The judges wished me to pass on their comments and said that they thought the standard was very high. There was such a variety of media and paintings. Well done to everyone who took part.
